About Qigong
...............................................................................................................................................................

The term “qigong” (chee gong) is made up of two Chinese characters:

Qi:  The Chinese word for “life energy”.  According to Chinese medicine, qi is the animating power that flows through all living things. In a healthy person this qi flows freely along various meridians or channels and through acupoints in the body.   It invigorates all parts of the body.  Everyone has direct access to it through simple methods that are easy to learn and practice.

Gong:  Work, discipline or benefits acquired through perseverance and practice.

Thus, qigong means “energy practice” or working with life energy to learn how to control the flow of qi in order to improve the health of mind, body and spirit.  It is a holistic system of self-healing exercise and meditation.

Qigong dates back as far as 10,000 BCE.  It is the “mother” of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, yoga and martial arts such as Taijijuan.  There are thousands of qigong forms.

Medical qigong is used regularly in hospitals in China for the treatment of heart disease, cancer and many other illnesses.  Patients who use qigong recover more quickly and gain skills to take charge of their own health.  Doctors also recommend it for preventative care.  Research indicates that Soaring Crane Qigong is an extremely effective form of medical qigong.

Soaring Crane Qigong was developed by Master Zhao, Jin-Xiang in the late 1970’s after the Cultural Revolution.  It rapidly became and is still one of the most popular and effective forms of medical qigong in China .  It is estimated that over 30 million people world-wide practice Soaring Crane Qigong.

Soaring Crane Qigong is popular because it works!  Its movements are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine theories and it is suitable for all levels of ability.  It combines a series of movements and mental focus which enable a smooth flow of Qi throughout the body for self-healing.   There are three levels in Soaring Crane Qigong training which include Five Routines, Standing & Sitting Meditations, Lying Down Qigong Meditations, Crane-Walking Steps and eight Remedy Routines.

The foundation of Soaring Crane Qigong is Five Routines that imitate the red-crested crane, historically revered in China for its longevity, patience and peaceful nature.  The movements are easy to learn.   You will quickly begin to notice positive changes in all aspects of your health: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.

There must be some primal force,
But it is impossible to locate.
I believe it exists, but cannot see it.
I see its results,
I can even feel it,
But it has no form.
